Angles, Shapes and Lines oh my
I have become interested in the angles and geometry at the Denver Botanic Gardens. There is this conceptual building there that from the outside looks very alien to me. It is the Science Pyramid seen below. The straight lines in the concrete edging, the triangular shapes of the roof, the 6-sided polygons making up the roof all make for an interesting subject. With a few tweaks I have created some other-worldly photographs.

| Many shapes |
I like using leading lines, shapes and angles - right ones, as well as acute/obtuse angles. I was trying to line up the camera along an edge or work out what I wanted to be included in the frame of the image. Sometimes moving a few steps around changed the image I was going for.
There is a lot of geometry "happening" in these images. I've tried to include different shapes in the composition. Playing with this Science Pyramid as the subject has led me to other insights into photography.
With landscape photography, a lot of what I learned in Iceland in February 2023, was that I learned how to use leading lines to draw the eye into the picture. I used the concrete edge in the photo above and other angles that I would line up with the camera to offset how I wanted the subject to appear.
Adding a water element with a short time exposure was a nice addition. I wanted to make the area appear out-of-this-world. In post processing I tweaked the sky or diffused the light further to give an effect that isn't what the eye sees. That was my fantasy project. Lots of fun.
Another great tool for sizing up a subject and the surrounding area is to use the iPhone when first arriving on a site. Now I scout around with the camera phone, sometimes taking a picture and other times just looking through it. The Apple iPhone camera all by itself takes beautiful photos. I am often finding that sometimes my SONY can't match what the iPhone captures in that moment. The photos in this post are taken with both cameras. You can decide which is which.
